Boom Town

  • Genre: Strategy
  • Developer: The Podge
  • Publisher: Armor Games
  • Producer: Carl Trelfa
  • Music: Class Records, Jeffrey Nelson
  • Art: Jim Chalwin, Sarah Costain
Ever wonder what it must have been like back in the days of the great gold rush? Or better yet, ever wish you could have been there when gold was struck and a small settlement of people soon surrounded the area? The birth of a Boom Town; and that’s exactly what you have to do in this wonderfully detailed strategy game. Take complete control of a piece of land and start mining for gold. Use the money to build the ultimate Boom Town and attract more people to it. Fun, simple, and thoroughly engaging!
Boom Town makes you master of the land. You choose the bombs, you select the sites to mine, you collect the gold, you build the town (even blow it up if you like), you eventually buy more land, and you decide when to sell your gold, depending on the market price for the day. The game’s features take a little getting used to, but once you get a hang of things, Boom Town can keep you engaged for days!
You start off by buying and planting bombs, then driving around in your truck and picking up the ore. Depending on how much gold you mine in a day, you make the money that helps your town grow and flourish. There are upgrades for almost everything in this game. From your truck to your gold refinery to your mining permit that gives you access to newer bombs to structures you can build in your town, everything in Boom Town has to be earned! And earn you shall!
There are even individual upgrades like a vault to store unlimited gold till the price is good, an upgrade to extend your drop zone across the bottom of your land, a survey upgrade that points out where the gold is, and a lab upgrade that makes your bombs stronger. You can even move your drop zone across the map once you own more land. Boom Town is so detailed, it’s almost real. Building the town is tougher than getting the gold, also very realistic.
Buildings are unlocked as population increases, but try building on mined areas, else sometimes you’ll have to blow your own town up, and the townsfolk too. Ah well, sacrifices must be made. Oh, and the best part of the game is the GoldBoom. These are rare times when gold prices skyrocket and population explodes. Make the most of these by saving gold in your vault. If you’re lucky, you’ll make enough to go on a building frenzy after one of these awaited days.
The artwork in the game could have been a little more colorful, it seems a little monotonous though it follows a clean lay out. Everything is within easy reach and comprehension, a good job especially since the game has so many details. The soundtrack on the game is a peppy easy listening blast from the golden past, and keeps one company through the game. Put together, Boom Town is a well-made strategy game that also involves some driving, action and planning, a wonderful combination, so bomb up, retreat to a safe distance, and light that fuse! Fire in the hole!

According to the wiki meaning of Hobo. hobos are migratory workers or homeless vagabonds, often penniless.
Well Hobo, its time for you to get on the streets and have some action. A very simple action game that you have only two keys to kick and punch, namely A and S. You move with the arrow keys.
But as you progress you unlock a range of super fun combinations that can be unlocked by pressing A and S in different orders. You can barf on your enemies, poo on them, launch your booger, spit on them and even gas them!!! Woo hoo, your enemies are every one on the street and the tough ones are the cops and garbage collectors.

  • What would life be like if the wind were to just stop one day? No more leaves rustling, no more cool breeze to soothe our soul, and a certain heart attack for power companies with windmill set-ups. But for one small floating village straight out of Avatar, it was the end of their lives. Dependent solely on the power of the wind (don’t ask how, they’re probably affiliated with Suzlon), they turn to the only person who can help them; you.
That’s the story of Out Of Wind, an entertaining new puzzle game where you must power the windmills by connecting the gears buried underground.
The game is as simple as it sounds. Just hook up the right size gears at the right points to make the connection and get the windmill moving. Some levels involve forging your own gears, well instructed in the game. Out Of Wind can get challenging at times, but with sufficient experimentation and some patience doing it, the game isn’t all that difficult to get past. Interesting challenges pop up every few levels, adding nicely to an otherwise simple concept.
The artwork in Out Of Wind is beautiful, clean and simple, with an ample use of bright colours, like a pretty painting out of an 8 year old girl’s drawing book. The artwork most definitely contributes to this game, giving you that fuzzy feeling of being in a beautiful place out in the country. But don’t forget, this floating paradise will fall away (quite literally) if you don’t get those windmills running and save the poor villagers that you’ll never see.
The soundtrack of the game is a very groovy acoustic track that quite caught my fancy. I sometimes find myself loading the game just to listen to it. It keeps you great company through the game, which shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to finish. At the end, the villagers very gratefully thank you as well, although they still won’t show their faces. All in all, Out Of Wind is a fun way to take a break from work or studies without letting your brain fall asleep, and also a good way to do your good deed of the day by saving the village. Good luck, messiah of the wind-dependent floating village! Your gears await you.

FlashMush Reviews Rating: 9/10

I will say it again, I am loving the flash game developer outfit, Shadem.com. You may recognize the name as I chose one of their games, Rawr, as #2 on my Top Flash Games of 2012. The name also might sound familiar as I did review Pike Club Platinum a while back which at the time I thought was the first in this Pike Club series but turns out that it was a second sort of spin off, but today's review is on the official sequel to Pike Club, Pike Club 2.

If you've played Pike Club or Pike Club Platinum from Shadem.com you know what it is all about, basically a dark and intense memory game. You are tasked at paying back a debt you owe to the scary and ominous Pike Club and to do so you must play a devious game of memory. Different cards are different colors and also have symbols on them. Correct matches give bonuses or other effects depending on color and this is where Pike Club 2 and the series in general takes a rather boring concept and turns it into an amazing experience. An example of these color card effects would be that matching green cards gives you money, blue cards gives you extra time, red cards heal you, etc. There are bad cards such as black cards which hurt you every time you flip one over (so better match them up quick!).

Formula Racer 2012

  • Genre: Driving
  • Developer: Long Animals, Turbo Nuke
  • Publisher: Kongregate
  • Art: Robot Jam
Don’t you miss the good old days playing NFS and F1 games on that boxy desktop PC or Top Gear on the ancient Sega, all pumped up just by the driving experience the games had to offer? But flash racing games somehow never quite got close to that, at least until now. The folks at turboNuke (of Cyclomaniacs fame) are back with an F1 style classic racing game that easily outdoes most other flash games like it; Formula Racer 2012, a sequel to last year’s Formula Racer. But because this version is so much nicer than the last in all aspects, you don’t even need to bother playing the last one.
Formula Racer 2012 offers a responsive racing experience along with 3 classes of race cars than can be upgraded and customized to your driving preferences. Each class offers 3, 4, and 5 races each, all of which need to be unlocked with the money you earn while racing. There is nothing fancy about this game, but the feel of speed and the sheer rush of turning at high speeds have been well captured in the way the car responds.
Formula Racer 2012 offers a most interesting telemetry feature that measures your top speed, position, boost use, and lateral G-forces during the race and lets you review it at the end, making you feel like some sort of expert as you find yourself analyzing it after each race. The tracks are challenging and the lack of a mini-map (maybe intentional) keeps you on your fingertips throughout a race. Your opponents aren’t easy to beat either. There are 32 of them, to begin with. And unless you use your boost (spacebar) wisely, upgrade and race the same track again, there’s a slim chance of you winning.
But whatever you do, don’t crash! You’ll most probably end up at the bottom of the pack by the time you recover, and winning becomes near impossible. The good bit though, the races pay well, even if you’re not in the top three. This enables you to upgrade your car and buy new tracks with relative ease. The game’s artwork is vivid and attractive, and provides for a good looking race. The soundtrack in the game is nice as well, fast paced just like the races. All in all, the game is a wonderful way to spend a few hours satisfying your need for speed, and reminiscing about the good old days of pure no-frills racing. So suit up, racing glory awaits you!

Relic Of War

After playing Infectonator 2, I was extremely curious to try some more games made by Toge Productions. I came across Relic of War, which was released earlier this year and for some reason caught my fancy.
So I decided to give it a try and now six hours later I am trying to get you to play it if you haven’t already. The game shares graphic and interface similarities with Infectonator and that’s where it ends. Unlike the mindless action that makes the latter appealing, Relic of War is real time strategy game that has so many elements combined into it, you can keep playing this one for days.
Yes days, firstly because there are two campaign modes that you have to go through. You choose if you want to play the axis or the allied campaign, both have a connecting story line but offer different soldiers, weapons and even chics that brief you prior to your missions.
  • The objective in each level is to protect your head quarter from being destroyed, not uncommon among flash games but the way its laid out is quite refreshing. You unlock soldiers, support and skills with the medals you get for each mission you accomplish.
The Soldiers upgrade with experience, the more you use them in a mission the more experience you get. Check out the video we made on how to upgrade your soldiers to the max level, it should help you progress through the harder levels. Support is extremely useful, so don’t under estimate it, you need medals to upgrade support levels and also do wonders with it by unlocking support skills. There’s a whole range of skills that you can check out in the screens or while you play the game.
The game makes it easy with the help of auto move, where you don’t need to control the soldiers, but sometimes you need to manually move them to plan your strategy, this can be done by simply clicking the unit and using the commands provided. Relic of War is a massive game, that’s going to keep you entertained for a good amount of time. Time to gear up, and get to battle!
